HCP LE5 Lateral Gas-Ported Factory Pistons

Get more performance out of the proven factory LE5 piston with HCP's lateral gas-porting modification.

We start with factory GM 2.4L LE5 Ecotec pistons and precision-machine lateral gas ports around the top ring groove. These ports allow cylinder pressure to reach the backside of the top compression ring, helping force the ring outward against the cylinder wall when cylinder pressure increases.

The result is improved ring seal under load, particularly in high-RPM and high-cylinder-pressure performance applications.

Unlike vertical gas ports drilled through the piston crown, lateral gas ports enter through the side of the piston and intersect the top ring groove. This maintains an unmodified piston crown while still using combustion pressure to improve ring sealing.

Each piston is machined by HCP as a matched set for use in performance and racing applications.

Competition Use: Proper piston-to-wall clearance, ring selection, ring end gap, tune-up, and engine assembly are critical. Gas porting increases ring loading under cylinder pressure and should be used as part of a properly designed performance engine combination.
